I have been struggling with a weird situation in the past 2 weeks.

The reason why this did not work was because the chrooted directory had write permissions. By revoking all write permissions, I managed to connect.

  • Hi- Whenever I let Filezilla sit open for a while. Filezilla network error: software caused connection abort when changing directories.
  • Open source freeware SFTP, SCP and FTP client for Windows.

I bought wordpress hosting on godaddy and they don't provide cpanel, that's why I am using Filezilla for transferring the files (SFTP) using Windows 10. But it is giving me this error:

Same here, FileZilla to GoDaddy – tried EVERYTHING. Even tested other FTPs I have with other clients and they worked.

Update: Day after original post above. This fix works for me. Went to FTP once again. Same issue came back. I followed the 4 steps above. Back to normal now.

I was having this issue, exactly as you describe it. I called godaddy and what they did was flush the cache and permissions on their side. This fixed my issue immediately. The tech on the phone said he's never seen this issue before, so I'm guessing its a newer/uncommon bug... but who knows.

I'd recommend calling them and having them do the same.

Try to turn on keep alive commands by checking:

Edit -> Settings -> Connection -> FTP -> FTP keep-alive -> Send FTP keep-alive commands

You may have been blacklisted by trying to connect too many times. Contact hosting provider to check (you can not) and remove your ip from that list.Hope this helps This solution works for GoDaddy.

We have this error message when trying to connect to a specific SFTP server using FileZilla 3301.
The server IP is 170.2.194.28 and can be tested just by trying to log on as anonymous. You won't be able to, but you should at the very least get prompted to save the Host Key.
I make no changes in FZ 3301 in between attempts, I just try to connect over and over and over...eventually the connection succeeds and I'm prompted to accept the SFTP Host Key. At that point I can browse the server directories. If I disconnect and immediately try to reconnect, then FZ fails with the 'Software caused connection abort' error message.
RefusedWindows 7 x64, Windows Firewall Disabled.
I have tested 6 different SFTP clients including: FlashFXP, PSFTP, AnyClient, CoreFTP, BitKinex, and WINSCP. They all connect to the server and are prompted to save the Host Key...the first time, everyFilezilla Network Error Software Caused Connection Abort Sftp

time. Only FileZilla has a problem with this server, preventing us from using FZ as a reliable client.
Any ideas? FZ retried over 30 times before successfully connecting.
